AI and the Impact on Receptionist Jobs

 

Over the years we have seen a rise in AI which has led to major changes in job markets around the world. One of those job markets is receptionist jobs. As AI continues to grow society has been seeing the benefit of replacing receptionists with AI. There are both benefits and problems with having AI as a receptionist. As AI continues to grow the chance of receptionist jobs to be taken is still there.

Currently, I work as a receptionist at a hospital. There was a point in time when the hospital was talking about including a computer system that guests can check themselves in and get to the patients’ rooms. However, the cost of this was high compared to hiring an employee. Not only that but in hospital people coming in are going through a variety of emotions. Having someone there to talk to while going through those emotions can help guests feel a bit better. However, having AI would help the hospital with having assistance around the clock compared to hiring a receptionist for a certain number of hours. AI also allows guests to have a variety of information stored compared to employees having to gather information if they did not have it.
