The NBA's Branding Strategy
The NBA is considered one
of the top sports leagues around the world, and the branding strategy that was
used has led to them being at the top. The NBA created a strong branding
strategy which has allowed it to be recognizable to fans around the world. The
logo used by the NBA features NBA player Jerry West, with the red, white, and
blue colors of the American flag, which has grown to become a key part of the NBA.
Not only that but the NBA has been successful at creating a community with the
fans. Over the years we have seen the NBA use social media and uses it to
create connections between fans and players. Due to this the NBA has been able
to have loyal fans that have a passion for the league and the players.
Over the years the NBA’s branding strategy has grown
and has been forward-thinking. The NBA has been making technological progress
such as NBA 2K league and the use of virtual reality technology has allowed the
fans to become more immersed in the fan experience. Over the last few years, we
have seen the NBA become key player in promoting social justice issues, by
being part of initiatives like the NBA Foundation, and the Black Lives Matter movement
as well. By doing this the NBA has been able to show the fans that the league
cares about its fans and the community.
The NBA also has been great at having star basketball
players to grow the league. The growth of company grew nationwide with
players like Wilt Chamberlin, Bill Russell, Jerry West, and Oscar Robertson.
From there we saw the league grow worldwide with players like Michael Jordan,
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, Charles Barkley, and Hakeem Olajuwon.
Currently, the league has continued to grow bigger with players like Kobe
Bryant, Lebron James, Steph Curry, and Giannis. The NBA has been able to create
popularity by using the players in marketing by creating a sense of excitement
and anticipation around the games. By doing so the league was able to create
interest in the league which allowed it to grow ticket sales, merchandise
sales, and trp.
